On this day (October 13th) in 2013, one of the most poignent and historic football matches took place in Grangegorman. Poignent, because it was the last Gaelic Football match played in the old Grangegorman. Historic, because, victory for the St Brendan's Men's Football 1st XV, meant the team would win AFL Division 8 winning all 15 games.
After defeating Naomh Olaf two weeks previously, The St Brendan's 1st XV, were assured the Division 8 League title, but were determined more than ever, to defeat Liffey Gaels and go through the whole league season undefeated, and The Dark Force did just that, defeating Liffey Gaels 0-13 to 0-4.
A great night was had by all, first at Dicey Reillys on Harcourt Street and onto McGowans of Phibsborough. and many players had booked the Monday off work to get theie first experience of The Monday Club.
Here is a memory of that tremendous 2013 season. Some players have moved on, a few are still involved in 2023.
