St Brendan’s Code of Behaviour Underage
St Brendan’s Club Welfare and fairness policy – “you get out what you put in”
Our overarching club policy is to treat everyone with respect and to be mindful at all times of
safety and the welfare of all in all of our actions whilst representing our club. Below are a set
of general club policies in addition to the Club’s Policy of MAINTAINING GOOD PRACTICE
AND BEHAVIOUR available on the Club website.
- All of our club managers, coaches and committee members must be Garda vetted or
in the process of attaining same.
- All of our club managers, coaches and committee members are familiar with club
policies and guidelines and will implement these.
- Coaches will foster a fun and respectful atmosphere within their team and the club.
Coaches’ coach – parents watch and enjoy.
- Club membership fees will be set by the club Management Committee every year –
fees must be paid at the start of each year before your child is entitled to play
otherwise they will not be permitted to play or use our facilities.
- Children under the age of 18 should never be left unattended at games or at training
without the permission of the team manager and parents/ guardians must ensure that
their child is collected after games/training. This is not the manager’s responsibility.
- Players or spectators must not abuse other players on their team or from other clubs
from the side-line or use of social media platforms.
- Adults must not to be connected to players through social media platforms.
- Players must play at their appropriate age group. There may be exceptions to this
from time to time and the Management Committee will deal with these if they arise.
- Players will play at the best standard they can, and coaches will support the
promotion of players to “first” teams where a player is capable of operating at a
higher level.
- Players are expected to attend all training sessions and all matches. If players are
unable to attend training, then the manager/ coach should be informed as early as
possible before the agreed training slot.
- Teams will be allocated training and pitch time on a fair and equitable basis – there
will be no favouritism for teams due to their playing at a higher level.
- From time to time opportunities for a team or for the club may arise in respect of
which spaces are limited, and not all players or members can participate. In the event
the club considers that it is important and valuable for the club and/or team to
participate in the opportunity, notwithstanding that not all team or club members can
be involved, then the places shall be allocated primarily based on the following
criteria, to apply sequentially: i) active volunteers (coaches/ volunteers and/or their
children) ii) consistent participation in training and matches; and iii) remaining names
drawn out of a hat by the coaches of the relevant team. Where the matter relates to
adult members the decision shall be made by the Chairperson and/or club Secretary
based primarily on volunteering.
The GAA recently launched the updated online version of Code of Behaviour (Underage).
This Code governs all activities within the GAA and has been adopted by St Brendan’s GAA
and shall also govern all our activities and members. It covers all activities with underage players in our club.
