"Today should be St Brendan's day" one of the players said as we were leaving a still sunny Longmeadows. The morning saw our U10's produce a great display of hurling and by all accounts win both their matches. This was followed by our U12 hurlers who had a winner take all, top of the table battle against Setanta to take the all Dublin division title. After an epic display the St Brendan's boys ran out winners to finish top of the table and league champions for 2026. Congratulations to all involved.
The afternoon saw the U13 boys bring down the curtain on their league campaign and this completed the "St Brendan's day" trilogy for the juvenile boys. Our final game saw us up against the southside powerhouse of Kilmacrud Crokes. While there was no silverware this year for this St Brendan's unit, they finished on a high with a good win against one of Dublins top clubs.
We saw a great all round team performance starting with our goalkeeper Jack, who made a few great saves and had some excellent clearances throughout. The defense of Jake, Milozs, Leo, Barthozs and Yuhang, kept the Kilmacrud attackers quiet, while John and George managed both defending and attacking from their midfield role.
The forwards caused problems all day and the Kilmacrud defenders will be glad they won’t have to play such a dynamic attacking unit again this year. Max and Cillian worked well as the playmakers and Yannis, Noah and Samuel were on hand to take the key scores. Samuel in particular was on fire and bagged a hat-trick of goals. We even had the luxury of subs today and Daniel and Billy both played their part, with Billy almost hitting the top corner with a blistering shot, only for the Kilmacrud goalkeeper to pull off a miraculous save.
The league has ended with a mid-table finish for the team and they can be proud of their achievements having moved up 6 divisions from last year. The season continues however and we will continue to train and we have a few challenge matches lined up for November. A big thanks to all the parents for getting everyone there and home again and a big thanks to our new sponsors, Rustic Pizza, we did the new jerseys proud today!
Final score: St Brendan’s 7-4 Kilmacrud Crokes 3-5.
Team: Jack, Milosz, Jake, Leo, Yuhang (0-2), Barthosz, John (0-1), George (1-0), Max, Cillian, Samuel (3-0), Yannis (1-1), Noah (2-0), Daniel and Billy.
