Round Towers provided the opposition today, this time on the spectacularly manicured sod of Longmeadow’s (a big thanks to the St Brendan’s ground staff for having the pitch looking so well). It was a beautiful sunny morning with ideal conditions for hurling. Despite the conditions, this turned into a tight, low scoring battle between two very evenly matched teams.

On the St. Brendan’s team, we saw some encouraging signs of skills progression with some fantastic puck outs from Billy and Jeremy, more jab lifts than we have ever seen before (well done to Seamus, Jack, Tom, Sean and John) and even a hand pass or two on show. Despite this, we allowed ourselves to get involved in a few too many rucks, which reminded some spectators of the Aviva stadium last Saturday. Our players showed the now customary heart and kept trying right up to the final whistle.

All that separated the teams at the end were two moments of brilliance, one in each half, from the Lusk no.12 who scored two excellent points. The St. Brendan’s forwards particularly Jake and Michael battled hard and contributed to a fine team performance.

A special mention to a new addition to the team, Oliwer, who was playing his first ever hurling match. Oliwer is not from a hurling stronghold but showed amazing skills and amazing heart for a first ever hurling match. A star of the future no doubt.
