Tyrellston hurlers provided the latest opposition for the u10 girls this afternoon at a sunny Longmeadows. It was a titanic battle between two well matched teams. As usual the St Brendan’s girls showed great skills but it was their spirit and determination that shone through.
Elise showed the way with some great pick-ups and a strike out of the hand that went narrowly wide. Her determination paid off with a goal to put St Brendan’s into the lead. Anna, Siún and Beau defended mightily for the black and amber team but Tyrellstown kept themselves in the match with an equaliser. Ellie put St Brendan’s into the lead before half-time with a strike from close range. The lead was nearly extended with a great long range effort from Aoibhe that went narrowly wide.
Elsie, Abigail and Beau were playing brilliantly and fighting for every ball and Clara put everything into a determined first half display.
As the second half went on the Brendan’s girls faced the perfect storm. A spirited Tyrellstown mounted a determined comeback as the heavens opened and the blue skies faded. A scrappy goal brought them an equaliser and they took the lead soon after as the rain poured down. Brendan’s were on the wrong side of the scoreline but can be proud of a fantastic performance.
Congratulations to Beau Hyland who was voted player of the week.
