On Saturday the 25th of March, the St Brendan's Under 12 girls team took on St. Margaret's GAA in a thrilling match that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. Whether the match would go ahead or not was very much a question up until the morning of the match. The risk of a waterlogged pitch causing the match to be postponed for a second week was on the minds of the St. Brendan’s girls that made the journey out to St. Margaret’s GAA. The game started off with both teams showing great determination and skill, St Margaret’s putting the girls in black and amber under pressure.

The early pressure was well soaked up with St. Brendan's goalkeeper Shannon making some impressive saves to keep the opposition at bay. The midfield was dominated by Réalta, Niamh and Dearbhla, who showed great composure on the ball and distributed well to their teammates. As the game progressed, St Brendan's began to take control, with all in the forward line scoring some impressive goals and points. Ava impressed up front with a brace of goals to go with a maiden score for Maria. All forward activity was well marshalled by Niamh Twomey while Chloe made sure to break the opposition attack at every turn.

A resolute defence kept the opposition to single digit scores in both halves as Roisin, Martha and Eloise kept pressure off Alicia and Roisin who held the last line of defence all afternoon. But this was a match for the full team with Luboba and Ella keeping the pressure on the girls from North County Dublin. The final score perhaps didn’t reflect quite how strong this St. Margaret’s outfit are with some silky passing and movement on display today. St. Brendan’s will do well not to underestimate this team as they prepare for a repeat fixture later this year.

Two wins out of two is a great start, but this is a group of girls who know well that there will be harder days to come and plenty more to be learned as this season progresses.
