A depleted St Brendan's team took to the field today against the Lusk boys, deep in north county Dublin territory. Several of our star players couldn't make it today but those who did really gave their all for the team.
The game started with 2 Lusk player's making up the St Brendan's full forward line and they helped themselves to several scores early on after some excellent build up play by the St Brendan's boys. The defence of Tom and Seamus snuffed out the Lusk attacks and started the moves which led to several of these scores.
A feature of the game was the kick out strategy which Billy executed brilliantly, finding a black and amber shirt nearly every time. The movement in midfield from Jack, Michael and Daniel stretched the Lusk players and we always had a free player to receive Billy's pin point kick outs.
The second half was a helter skelter affair with several of the Lusk players swapping in and out to help make up the numbers for St Brendan's. This must have added to the confusion for our players and the half started with Seamus heading in the wrong direction and scoring an own goal (or point to be precise). But he soon got his bearings and scored a fine long distance point - over the correct crossbar this time! He followed this up with a fine goal. Daniel put in a great performance too and went close to getting on the score sheet a few times himself.
We saw all the skills from both teams. But the St Brendan's boys showed the potential of this group by playing as a team, passing, tackling, blocking, tracking back and helping each other out. This really was a very exciting game for the spectators.
