After securing back to back victory’s against St Margaret’s and St Peregrines. The St Brendan’s 2nd XV, in partnership with Stoneybatter Pride of Place made a bid for a third consecutive victory when Whitehall Colmcilles made the Friday evening trip to Grangegorman. 

Before that heres another weekly round up with the other St Brendan’s teams.

On Sunday May 14th  The Hurlers travelled to Lucan Sarsfields in a bid to make a serious statement in earning automatic promotion against the 2nd placed side. However, Lucan ran out 1-16 to 1-13 winners, leaving St Brendan’s having to play for a place for a play off for the third promotion spot.

On Wednesday May 17th, the St Brendan’s Ladies Football 2nd XV, without a win so far, were at home in Longmeadows and a Division 8 fixture with Ballinteer St John’s, also without a win so someone’s unwanted O must go.

First half goals from Sadbh McDermott and Niamh Dwyer and second half goals from Anne Marie Casey, Karen Sheehan and Rebecca McLoughlin and two points from Silé Moore helped The Female Darkest Force to a 5-7 to 2-13 victory and finally get rid of an unwanted O, which Cian Walsh chucked in the Liffey. 

That same evening in Kilbogget Park in Cabinteely. The St Brendan’s Ladies 1st XV continued their winning ways with a comfortable 5-10 to 2-4 victory over the Foxrock Cabinteely 2nds. 

So onto Friday night in Grangegorman but things didn’t go well at the beginning when Whitehall won a turnover in the opening minute and worked it up field and beating Conor Hallison or the first green flag of the evening.  The Darkest Force did respond with a Brian Hobbins point 1-0 to 0-1.

But then the home side had a big mountain to climb reaching the 24th minute when the away side increased their tally to 2-5 by the time the 2nd point sailed between the posts thanks to Ferdia Donohoe after Hobbins won the free in passed to Alan ‘Mack Hansen’ Pierse, the to James McGee who was fouled and up stepped Donohoe with the point. 

That became 0-3 when Eoin ‘The Danger Man’ McAuley won an easy turnover and passes from Killian Dixon and McGee and it was Andy ‘The Ballaghderreen Bypass ‘ Moran with the score in the final minute of the half.

Whenever St Brendans 2nd XV face Whitehall Colmcilles, you always expect the unexpected and this evening was no exception as Whitehall had five attacks and five wide’s before finally hitting a point in the 43rd minute.

However, St Brendan’s did play their best football in the final quarter and James Mc Gee whipped in a high ball into the square which resulted in the Whitehall goalkeeper punching straight to Brian Hobbins and his low shot went into the net to cut the deficit from 9 to 6 points. 2-6 to 1-3.

Another Whitehall free in was pointed, Fedria Donohoe kept his side within six points with a point from play after John Tuffy won possession in midfield and final pass from Andy Moran. Donohoe had a chance to five between the sides, but hit his free in wide whereas Whitehall pointed theres to increase the lead by seven points. 2-8 to 1-4.

Five minutes to go and there was a glimmer to go for The Darkest Force when Hobbins, dangerously close to the sideline passed the ball into the large parallelogram where James McGee was on hand to get a knuckle on to guide the ball into the net.

Alas, the comeback never materialized because Whitehall had the final say of the evening with their 9th and final point and Conor Hallison’s kick out was the last action of the contest. Disappointment for the 2nds who are back on action on June 1st and a away fixture against Fingal Ravens.
