Another scorcher on Dublin's northside saw the St Brendan's boys up against a Whitehall Colmcille side, coached by a former St Brendan's player (John Walsh) and he even had his old St Brendan's socks on to prove it! The match started at a frantic pace and the Whitehall team grabbed a couple of goals but they didn't get the chance to go for points due to the pressure they were under. The St Brendan's defence of John, Jake and Michael repelled several promising attacks and a feature of this game was the blocking and hooking.
Daniel started between the posts and his puck outs fed plenty of ball into Billy and the returning PJ. The midfield of Seamus, Jeremy and Jack worked well together and it was Jack who set up the first and only score of the half for St Brendan's. He got the ball to the marauding John who rattled the back of the net from an impossible angle.
The second half saw a St Brendan's player heading in the wrong direction again and nearly scoring against his own team! The Coaches will need to ensure their players are pointing in the right direction for the start of the second half, from here on. When heading in the right direction, Jeremy was a sight to behold and he had several long range efforts which just narrowly missed the target. But his perseverance paid off and he got the point his display warranted. The heat began to take its toll on some of our players and Whitehall got through for some fairly easy goals. But a late goal from Jack set up an exciting finish to the game. Final score: Whitehall 7-0 (7) - St Brendan's 2-1 (5).
Congratulations to Daniel who picked up the Player of the Week award.
