The St Brendan’s u11’s team had their last game of the year today in a sunny Grangegorman. After a long hard season, with almost 20 games played, the final game of the year was against the might of Kilmacrud Crokes. While it was almost like a summer’s day in Grangegorman, there was quite a strong breeze which favoured the St Brendan’s team in the first half. This allowed the boys to dominate possession and this resulted in several early scores with Daniel hitting the net after good work from Seamus put him clear on goal. We had points from Billy (the scoring machine), John, Seamus and George, a near miss from Jack and several assists from Barthosz.
As to be expected, Kilmacrud came into the game more as the half wore on. But our defenders led by Milosz, Taha and Jake worked well together to repel the attacks. Logan made one great save to deny a certain goal and his kick outs helped to set up several St Brendan’s attacks.
In the final stages of the first half the St Brendan’s team attacked relentlessly and this resulted in several more scores, with goals from John and Seamus and more points from Billy, Daniel and Jack.
The teams changed sides for the second half but unfortunately the wind kept blowing in the same direction! This meant the St Brendan’s defense was much busier. We had Vlad in goals for the second half and he had to take the ball out to the net on a couple of occasions. But everyone worked hard and showed some great teamwork to keep Kilmacrud at bay.
When the referee blew the final whistle it was clear that the second half was won by Kilmacrud Crokes. There were some tense moments as he counted up the scores with some thinking Kilmacrud had sneaked it by the smallest of margins. But in the end the ref confirmed that this great contest had ended in a draw.
This history making group have shown great dedication and remarkable improvement in these last few games of the year especially. The management would like to thank all the players for the hard work they have put in all year and a special mention to the parents for their support and encouragement. We hope to see everyone back again next year when we will move up to the u12 age group (which will be the first ever St Brendan’s boys u12 team!).
