Both Mens Football teams were at home in Grangegorman in Round 3 of the Go Ahead AFL 5 & 10A.
First up was the 1st XV, sponsored by Dynamic Safety Solutions who played Templeogue Synge Street, who fielded a totally different team to the team that defeated St Brendan’s 2-11 to 0-12 on June 23rd last year. In fact, The Syngers played their entire Under 20 panel here.
But it turned out to be a sobering morning for The Dark Force against the young legs of the Dolphin Park outfit who won 5-16 to 0-8.
St Brendan’s point scores were Andy Kelly *4, Sean Whelan *2, Harry Beggy and Donal Clarke.
The Syngers got the opening score with a goal 45 seconds into the contest and the second goal was a penalty.
The result was sobering to Tuffy, Feeney and Cian Walsh to say the least.
But it wasn't all doom and gloom in Grangegorman today. At 2pm, the St Brendan’s 2nd XV, in partnership with Stoneybatter Pride of Place, faced St Jude's in Round 3 of Go Ahead AFL10A.
Still incandescent with rage over the manner the 1sts were thrashed, John Tuffy and Shane Feeney, put all their anger, all their hurt and all their frustrations into running the bollix off the 2nds players during a vigorous warm up.
However, despite Sean Moore getting a two pointer and Darragh ‘Cadillac’ O'Keeffe getting the goal, St Jude's lead 1-5 to 0-9 at half time.
But guess what, that vigorous warm up and the anger channeled into them by Feeney and Tuffy at half time, paid off in the biggest way possible by prevailing on a 4-13 to 0-14 scoreline.
‘The Manic Street Preacher’ Moore got a second 2 pointer in the 2nd half but then, unusually from Sligo men, Tuffy and Feeney bought in Mayo style chaos to the match and The Darkest Force went goal crazy with three more green flags from Dylan ‘Not the Galwayman’ McHugh, Cathal ‘Patrick Mahomes’ O’Donnell and The Dream Maker Sean Dardis.
Tuffy was ecstatic that no goals were conceded whereas there was a good performance all round from John ‘I Hate Denis Bastick’ Joyce.
Tuffy was no doubt smiling from ear to ear to leave Grangegorman with two AFL10A points in the boot of his Tesla.
Next up an April 6th away fixture against Lucan Sarsfields, while the 1sts are also away to St Vincents at 11am.
Also in action today was the St Brendan’s Ladies Football 2nd XV, Sponsored by McGowans, who started their 2025 season on a winning note against St Finians Newcastle on a scoreline of 5-8 to 2-2.
Meabh O’Dea, Sadbh Mc Dermott, Kellie Fisher, Niamh Byrne and Áine Cleary with the goals.
