St Brendan’s U10’s boys took on Fingal Ravens in a wet Longmeadows today. The rain made it slippery underfoot but both teams adapted well to the unfamiliar conditions.
Fingal Ravens dominated the scoreboard in the first half with St Brendan’s a little slow out of the blocks. They built up an early lead with 2 goals and 5 points, which could have been more but for some excellent defending from Jake who broke up countless Ravens attacks. He was ably assisted by Oliver and Jack. As the half wore on St Brendan’s began to move into gear with midfielders Tom and John getting more ball up to the forwards but we just couldn’t get the ball between the posts. Just a solitary score for St Brendan’s with Seamus pointing a free near the end of the half.
The second half saw St Brendan’s become the dominant force. The introduction of Crean, who played earlier with the U9s, added more potency to the forward line and he scored a fine point on his debut at this level. He was unfortunate not to add to his tally when another shot rattled the crossbar and rebounded out rather than over or under! At this stage, Jack and Jeremy were ruling the roost in midfield and 3 fine long range points from Jeremy set up an exciting finish to the match.
St Brendan’s piled forward looking for the scores to take them into the lead and there was some excellent team play on show with PJ, Billy and Daniel all going close to raising the white flag. Michael picked up an injury late on, which forced him out of the game and we wish him well with his recovery. Final score St Brendan’s 0-8 (24) - Fingal Ravens 2-9 (29).
Congrats to Jake Shanahan who picked up the player of the week award.
Team: Daniel, Billy, Jack, Oliver, Seamus, Tom, John, Michael, Jake, PJ, Jeremy and Crean.
